What are financial matters?

These are everyday things such as Car and House Insurance,  medical aid, and in a wider aspect, such matters as Investments, Insurance, Savings, Retirement planning

but overall my PRACTICE gives you Advice, Guidance and Planning in all matters affected by Personal, Family, Business, Marriage, Divorce etc. and indeed what to do when a loved one dies!

It's not those bad luck stories I hear all the time, from people listening to ADVICE from others, like their Brother-in-Law (nothing against In-Laws) or worse someone in the Pub who  knows someone and it's a sure winner you may as well be at the races!

BAD ADVICE - what does this mean?

Getting the WRONG advice can be devastating just like BAD ADVICE and may only become apparent much later in your life, maybe, by then, you cannot rectify this BAD ADVICE and have to suffer the consequences because of age you can't recover BAD ADVICE and your unable to put the matter right. 

Peace of Mind - what does this mean?

Take it from our experience only listen to GOOD ADVICE from trained FSP's, you will feel much more secure have less problems later in life. We all know that some of us try to cut corners take too many risks in an attempt to save money. We consider that we always know better we don't seek GOOD ADVICE. Sometimes you get lucky with this strategy it may work but in practice sooner or later it will bite you then you had better have enough savings to get you through.

From the Ombudsman Report 2006

“Section 16 (1) of the FAIS Act is premised on the principle that a client being rendered financial services must be able to make informed decisions. Implicit in the concept of an informed decision is the right to choose. In other words in order to make an informed decision on a particular product or service, the client must be able to select from a range of products and services, offered at competitive prices with an assurance of satisfactory quality.”

This perspective certainly bodes well for the independent broker who is able to offer his client the required selection but makes one wonder how it will apply to tied agents - how do you offer a client a choice between one? Jokes aside, the bottom line is that the client must be able to make an informed decision based on all the relevant facts; if you can only offer one product, you may not limit the client to this - the client must be made aware that there are alternatives from other product providers.

2. “A provider must obtain appropriate and available information regarding a client’s financial situation, objectives and product experience to enable the provider to provide the client with appropriate advice. The provider must conduct a financial needs analysis based on the information obtained, and then identify the financial product or products that will be appropriate to the client’s risk profile and financial needs.”

 

In essence, the Ombud is saying that we as Financial Advisors, need to take all of YOUR, the Client, circumstances into account during the advice process. Making of assumptions will NOT be in either of our best interests. Remember the old adage:
